If you have an Amazon Alexa Echo, Echo Dot or Echo Show in your smart home you probably know you can ask Alexa to play music, set alarms, and perform other useful tasks. But did you know there lots of Alexa secret voice commands (often called ‘Alexa Easter Eggs’)?

Sometimes these give you an insight into Alexa’s character and her thoughts on life others will allow you to play games with her or quote famous people, movies and cool pop culture references (Google has them too, check out Google’s Easter eggs here) .

WHAT IS SUPER ALEXA MODE?

Ok, I get asked this all the time. Probably because there are a ton of clickbaity things on youtube that would make you think that this is something bad or that it can hurt someone and that just isn’t the case at all.

Super Alexa Mode is purely just to give old gamers like me a laugh. Technically it is one of the “Alexa Easter Eggs” or hidden cheat code that puts Alexa into a secret mode.

The mode will display on the screen and alert you to the fact that “Super Alexa Mode Activated.” But it doesn’t actually do anything. Basically it is for anyone who ever played original Nintendo (NES) games.

The trigger phrase is the Konami Code, better known as the Contra Code. It originated from Konami’s 1986 game Gradius for the NES but gained more popularity from Contra, a platformer released in 1987. If players entered the code on Contra’s title screen, they would be given 30 lives.

The code is this…

“Alexa, up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start.”

Alexas response is awesome (if you’re a geek!) – Super Alexa mode. Activated. Starting reactors. Online. Enabling advanced systems. Online. Raising dongers. Error. Dongers missing. Aborting

CAN YOU GET ALEXA TO SWEAR?

Yes, well, sort of…. with some work. You can set up custom replies to phrases. But out of the box, Amazon Alexa will filter out most swear words no matter what you do.

One person recently said that saying something like “Alexa, Simon says far queue” will kind of get her swearing (although it’s not so good). LOL

The guy in the video below also had an interesting way of getting Alexa to swear that I had never heard before!

WHAT SECRET THINGS CAN ALEXA DO?

There are tons of different secret things that you can do with Alex in your smart home, even outside of the aforementioned Alexa Easter Eggs.

WHAT IS THE MOST INVENTIVE THING ANYONE HAS TRAINED ALEXA TO ANSWER TO?

According to one Reddit user, JustBrass, who is apparently very savvy. He renamed his living room Echo dot to “computer”. Then one night while he was watching Star Trek, The Next Generation, the phrase “computer, locate Captain Picard” triggered the Echo dot to respond (in exact time with the ship’s computer) “Captain Picard is no longer on the enterprise”.

I thought that was pretty awesome!… and funny!
