Lockly Secure Pro Deadbolt Review
Recently the wonderful people at Lockly were nice enough to send me their new Lockly Secure Pro Deadbolt to check out and review, so I spent the weekend installing it and trying it out. The Lockly Secure Pro is a smart lock that allows you to unlock your door in a multitude of ways.
It goes for around $300 depending upon which exact version you choose and it’s awesome for the most part. So we’re going to dive in and explore some of the features and benefits of this awesome smart lock.
Why Buy The Lockly Secure Pro Deadbolt?
You get everything you need inside the box from the screws to the batteries that will power the lock and everything in between. The Lockly Secure Pro also comes with a Wi-Fi hub so you can lock and unlock the door from anywhere in the world and door sensors to let you know if the door has been open or closed as well.
Now to be honest I did have a little bit of help from my father in law actually installing the hardware as he has installed locks many times in the past.
To quote my father in law, “if you know how to set up and install an old traditional lock this is no problem at all”. As for like the software/app side and getting it connected to your network and Bluetooth it doesn’t get any easier in my opinion.
There are five ways that you can unlock this door.
- The first one would be with the old traditional door key like you would any other lock.
- Next is via the fingerprint sensor, you just place your fingerprint on the fingerprint scanner on the side (once you’ve added it to the app) and it automatically unlocks the door.
- The next way is with a code you set up. Basically, you just enter the code. For example, the one I set up is 6,5,4,3,2,1 and then hit the blue button on the bottom of the keypad and that unlocks the door.
- The last way is with the Lockly app, all you do is open up the app and then tap the center button and it unlocks it.
- The final way is to use Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa and open it with your voice
. For example, you can say “ok Google, unlock front door”. Google will then say “can I have your security code to unlock the door” then you enter your security code and it will proceed to unlock the door.
How To Install The Lockly Secure Pro Deadbolt
Step 1: Prepare The Door- Follow your manual and measure the door to make sure everything is correct. The half-inch hole on the top is for stabilizing the lock, which Lockly recommends you to drill the hole. However, if you do not want to drill a hole into your door they supply a 3m double-sided tape to help secure your new lock in place.
Step 2: Adjust The Bolt- You can toggle button A located on the bolt to extend the bolt between 2 and 3/4 and two and 3/8 of an inch in order to fit your door. When correctly installed the plus sign in the door should be in the center of the hole.
Step 3: Extending The Bolt- Use a Phillips screwdriver to turn clockwise and extend the bolt fully out as if a door was locked. Make sure that the “this side up sticker” is above the position of the + mark. Then you can use the screws to secure the bolt in place into the door.
Step 4: Preparing The Exterior- Assembly this rod is used if you drilled a hole into your door if a hole was not drilled you may remove this rod by turning counterclockwise assemble the following pieces as shown.
Step 5: Installing the Exterior Assembly- Just insert the exterior assembly with the torque blade through the bolt, by putting the torque blade vertically through the bolt. Make sure when you are doing this step that the bolt is still fully extended out. Pass the cable underneath the bolt through the center hole of the backplate and push it into the side hole. Depending on the thickness of your door you can secure the door using different screws on the top. Then just further secure it by screwing the two screws on the bottom. Make sure the lock is secured tightly by attempting to move the lock. Then you can use the physical key to unlock and lock the door and make sure the locking bolt works smoothly.
Step 6 Installing The Interior Assembly- Connect the cable to the interior piece of the lock by matching the red face of the connector to the socket marked in red. Then make sure that the cable is securely installed into the socket. Once you are done with that just push the thumb turn shaft into the torque plate to complete this part of the install.
Step 7: Securing Lockley- Secure the interior piece to the mount by screwing in the two screws. Make sure your thumb turn is facing vertically up and the vault is still fully extended.
Step 8: Installing Batteries- Install three of the batteries included with your smart lock. Press and hold the program button located on the inside of the lock beneath the batteries. Then install the fourth battery while continuing to hold the program button. After that, you’ll hear a series of beeps and Lockley will attempt to turn the bolt. This process is very critical to help determine whether your door swings right or swings left.
Step 9: Finishing Installation- Install the door strike to your door frame to complete your installation. Make sure you test to make sure your lock fits by closing the door unlocking and unlocking the door from the inside.
Once you have things set up you’re really not going to have a reason to be in the app all that much moving forward. Maybe if you need to add a person to give them access to the lock or maybe to remove somebody or something like that or maybe to unlock the door. But other than that you’re not gonna really be in the app all that much, but when you are it can be a little buggy.
It doesn’t really seem to be a big deal yet, but sometimes I have to close it out and reopen it especially if I’m in there a bunch of times over and over. So overall if you’re looking to get this lock I would highly recommend it. I’ve enjoyed it thus far and some of the things I love about it are that it’s really easy to use.
I can unlock and lock the door from anywhere in the world, which is amazing. The fact that it auto-locks and there are no fees involved after you buy the Lockly (no monthly fees) or anything like that.
I can give out keys to basically anybody virtually and have them access to the house or lock the house as they see fit. So if you’re a real estate agent or you’re renting this your house out on Airbnb and your really not going to be around at all this would be perfect for you. For example, in the case that you need to give access to other people (groundskeepers, etc.).
Pros:
- Easy to program with the Lockly app
- Exceptional customer support
Cons:
- The LCD screen can act a little funny when in direct sunlight
- The plastic parts of the design feel flimsy

I really really enjoyed using the Lockly Secure Pro Deadbolt. I’m glad they sent this out to me for review because I’ve tested a lot of these locks and this is the only one I have tested that has biometric fingerprint locking. I’m very impressed because since it’s been set up it’s worked extremely well.
